Grand Lodge - Local Lodges

Capture_map

A Grand Lodge is the governing body for a collection of local lodges. The local lodge is where individual members belong and meet regularly. It is also where instruction is given and the actual work of the Fraternity is conducted. There are 93 lodges meeting in 70 buildings across Connecticut.

The first Grand Lodge was founded in London, England in 1717 when four local lodges agreed to form a central governing body. Other Grand Lodges formed in Scotland and Ireland, and lodges were chartered throughout the world. Soon these local lodges gathered and formed their own Grand Lodge, which in turn gave charters and created more lodges. Today, there are more than 150 Grand Lodges worldwide with a collective membership of more than 6,000,000.
